Nancy's children

Thomas County is where the family of Radford Browning settled. E. F. Browning in his book mixed up Radford Browning with John Browning and combined them as one man, a common mistake in genealogy. There is a falsified list of children made for an application for DAR membership in 1954 Arkansas using the 1847 Bible/Family Book 1953 "transcription" which is a manipulation of dates and Nancy´s marriage to fit the E.F. Browning book. At that time they did not know any better than to think a book must be the truth.

Original transcriptions should be used- there you find manipulations of dates and children. Nancy had 11 children from what I can tell from the Bible.

Cindy Stamps found estate papers for John Browning's estate in Clark County,
Arkansas but could not find the will. According to the estate papers there
was a will "annexed."
"The papers are somewhat hard to read but here is a
partial transcription:
"August 28th AD 1844
This day personally came Nancy Browning before me, James S. Ward, Clerk of
the Circuit Court and En officis Clerk of the Court of Probate in an for the
County of Clark, aforesaid, and, presented letters of Administration with
the will annexed on the estate of John Browning deceased, and David M.
Browning, Francis J. Browning, and William F. Browning, appointed executors
in and by the last will and testament of the said John Browning deceased, to
execute the same, refusing to enter upon the execution of the said last will
and testament. It is therefore on the motion of the said Nancy Browning and
by consent of the said David M. Browning, Francis J. Browning, and William
F. Browning, ordered by me James S. Ward...that letters of
Administration...is hereby granted to the said Nancy Browning."

Now the above does not name the men as sons but later in the papers are
listed John Browning's heirs:
1. Elizabeth Grady (don't know who Elizabeth's third husband was)
2. Nathan P. Browning
3. David M. Browning
4. Francis J. Browning
5. William F. Browning
6. Nancy Bankston (Nancy Browning Hardy Bankston, widow of Robert Hardy, wife of James Madison Bankston as of 11 Jan 1846, Coosa Co., AL)
7. Alonza Hogan and Diadema Hogan (children of Martha "Patsy" O. N. Browning and Daniel Hogan, both deceased and buried in Coosa Co., AL)
8. Mary Graham (“Polly”wife of Samuel NeSmith Graham, Montgomery Co. and Butler Co.,AL-  Polly H. Browning)
9. Lucy Ann Bozeman and Michael Bozeman (of Clark County, AR) "

COMMENT:
16 births are listed in the Bible- some are grandchildren or neices or nephews. Nancy did not have 16 children.
The following are Nancy Peeples' children and grand children, nieces and nephews under BIRTHS in the 1803 Bible- numbering is mine and parenthese. Nancy and John married 27 September 1792 -NOT 1790- the marriage date was changed in a later transcription to 1790 in order to legally and falsely include Daniel Browning as their child who was actually their nephew and who they put as a birth in their Bible, as it was the custom to put family births in the Bible including relatives.

1. Daniel BROWNING was born October 2, 1791 [This is probably their first nephew, the son of William who died January 25, 1832-John´s brother. Nancy Peeples and John Browning did not marry till September 1792.]
2. Elizabeth BROWNING was born January 5, 1794 (married William May, John Sessions, and a Grady)
3. Nathan Peebles BROWNING b: 17 Dec 1795 [died December 4, 1845 in Texas]
4. David M BROWNING was born 15 July 1798 [died January 22, 1877]
5. Francis J. BROWNING was born 1 Oct 1800[middle name John died September 1, 1885He married Sarah Peke Veazey b 17 JUL 1804 in GA-her death is recorded in the Bible April 27, 1875]
6. William F. BROWNING was born 9 July 1802[died July 26, 1854 he married Margaret Eliza Bostwick b 10 September1809 died October 8, 1839]
7. Nancy BROWNING was born 5 June 1804 [middle name may have been Peebles. Married Robert Hardy 31 July 1823]
8. Patsy O.N. BROWNING was born June 1,1806 [Patsy is nickname for Martha- married Daniel Hogan. She died February 3, 1843.]
9. Polly H. BROWNING was born 23 July 1808 [Polly for Mary- ful name Mary Hurd Browning, married Samuel NeSmith Graham]
10. John V BROWNING was born October 6,1811 [died October 6, 1812]
11. Lucy Ann BROWNING was born September 23,1813 (my great aunt)[written into Bible at a much later date, probably by a Boazman descendant]
12. Didema BROWNING was born December 28, 1815 [I think she is sometimes mixed up with her sister Patsy O. who is sometimes called Martha Didema]
13. Joseph Alanson BROWNING was born 21 Aug 1818 [died September 15, 1839]
14. Nancy E. BROWNING was born December 17, 1817 [her name is out of order of previous children, daughter of David M. Browning and first wife Polly English- second wife was Minerva Allen]
15. Didema E. BROWNING was born July 7, 1825 [married David Peebles and was the daughter of Francis John Browning]
16. Mary Didema Peebles, daughter of David and Didema Peebles was born February 14, 1834

A long time ago a member of the John and Nancy Browning family saw the old Boazman/Browning Bible which was in the family at Arkansas- she said that she transcribed the Bible and she wrote down John Rittson Browning- but when everyone was copying the popular Browning book which had the mistakes in it and had "John Radford Browning" in it, she thought she must have copied Rittson wrong, so she changed it to Radford to match what everyone else believed. Mrs. Ferig probably did the same thing in her application to DAR for the Browning family.

However I found a Radford Browning in southern GA who had some of the children which were put under John Browning's wife Nancy Browning's name in the book. So what happened is that Radford Browning and John Browning were combined into one man and their children combined under one woman- Nancy Peebles Browning. However the original Bible list transcription does not have the children of Radford Browning who were born down in southern GA. Their mother was Honor Grace. Radford was born about 1757. But John Browning was born 1767.

In your birth list of the children born to Nancy Peebles Browning, you have left out Nancy Peebles Browning's daughter Nancy Peebles Browning and you have the birthdays wrong. Your list is not the transcription from the Bible. it is from a "family book" from the Browning family which was made up by a Mrs Ferig in charge of applying for DAR membership at Arkadelphia.

The transcription of the Bible has the real date of marriage and the dates of the children born to Nancy Peebles and John Browning, as well as some relatives- like their nephew Daniel who is the 1st child listed and is not their son. But they have 12 children and you have left out their daughter Nancy -and you have also used the birthday list from a so called "family book" which was "doctored" to fit in names of Radford Browning's children who were born to Radford Browning and Honor Grace in southern GA. They werent born to Nancy Peebles and her husband John Browning in Greene Co GA. The undoctored Bible list is as followed, NOT the list inserted by Mrs. Ferig at Arkadelphia Library in 1954 when the family book "transcription" was made for a DAR application-
